AI Datacenters in Space Doesn’t Sound So Crazy

Some technology ideas sound crazy until they become obvious. AI infrastructure may be one of them.

Saturday random thought.

I’ve been reading about Elon Musk’s idea of putting AI datacenters in space.

And my first reaction wasn’t that it was crazy.

It was, “Of course he’d think of that.”

Maybe I’m getting old, but I’ve lived through enough technology shifts to know that the craziest ideas sometimes end up becoming normal.

I remember people saying businesses didn’t need computers.

Then they didn’t need the internet.

Then e-commerce was a joke.

Then working remotely would never happen.

Now we’re debating whether AI infrastructure should eventually move off the planet.

Honestly, I kind of love it.

Not because I know it will work.

I have no idea.

But because somebody is thinking beyond the obvious.

AI is going to need an incredible amount of energy over the next decade, and if we’re already hitting limits here on Earth, maybe looking up isn’t such a crazy idea after all.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that technology usually rewards the people who are curious instead of afraid.

I don’t know if we’ll end up with AI datacenters floating in orbit.

But I wouldn’t bet against it.

I’ve made that mistake before.
